HUNTSVILLE, Ala.(August 25, 2011)- Breast cancer survivor, singer, actress and veteran stand-up comedienne, Diana Jordan will be a keynote speaker at The North Alabama Nurse Practitioner, Inc., (NANPA) Annual Clinical Symposium on Friday, Sept. 23. The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAHuntsville) College of Nursing is co-sponsoring the event. The two-day symposium will be held Sept. 23-24 at the Huntsville Marriott. Nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists, registered nurses, physician assistants, physicians, other health care providers and students are encouraged to attend. Professional credit is available for participants attending the symposium. On Friday, at 8 a.m., Beverly Johnson, president of NANPA, and C. Fay Raines, dean of the UAHuntsville College of Nursing will welcome symposium attendees. At 9 a.m., Diana Jordan will give a talk entitled "The Healing Power of Laughter: The Power of a Happy Heart." Additional keynote speakers for the NANPA symposium include Gregory Pokrywka and Wendy Wright. Pokrywkais assistant professor of medicine, at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and is one of a handful of doctors in the United States double certified in lipidology and menopause. Clinical lipidology is the study of fats stored in blood. He specializes in heart disease in menopausal and postmenopausal women. Pokrywkaparticipates enthusiastically in theGo Red for Womenand WomenHeartcampaigns to fight heart disease in women. Wrightis a family nurse practitioner working fulltime in a practice, which she founded and owns, Wright & Associates Family Healthcare. The clinic is owned and operated by nurse practitioners. She is the senior lecturer for Fitzgerald Health Education Associates. Wright is an author of thePhysical Assessment and Health History Cue Card Series. She is widely published and has produced a number of videos and audiotapes. Wright has served as an expert witness in several medical malpractice cases and is frequently retained by attorneys for case review and consultation. In addition, she is an expert on "Medscape's Ask the Expert Nurse Practitioner" web site, and is an editorial board member for Medscape's E-Journal. Wright is editor in chief ofAPC Today,a website designed for the advanced practice clinician.
