Merit Tuition Scholarships cover up to 100% of tuition costs

A university education is an investment in your future, and there's no better place than The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) to get the best return on that investment. Part of the reason why is UAH's Merit Tuition Scholarships, which provide tuition assistance to first-time full-time freshmen (including international students) based on their academic achievement.

"These scholarships can cover up to 100% of tuition costs, including on-campus housing in some cases," says Sally Badoud, Interim Director of Admissions. "And the best part is, no separate application is required. Any student who submits an application for admission to UAH, along with their transcript and standardized test scores, is automatically eligible for consideration."

Just as simple is determining the award amount each student is eligible for, which is based on a combination of their SAT or ACT score and their GPA:

"The average ACT score of our incoming students is 26.7, which is among the highest in the state," says Badoud. "So this is a way for us to reward these high achievers while at the same time making it possible for them to continue their academic career at the university level."

To supplement these Merit Tuition Scholarships, UAH also offers departmental scholarships. Student eligibility for these awards is based on a broader variety of criteria including academic interests and achievements, special talents, and demonstrated leadership. They also require a separate application, with a priority consideration deadline of Dec. 1.

"We want to offer the most financial assistance that we can to offset the cost of tuition for families not just in Alabama but also the surrounding area," says Badoud, adding that students in select counties in Tennessee qualify for in-state tuition. "With our scholarships - and our new block tuition structure - it all adds up to a great investment."
