The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will host the 2016 Cyber-Charged Camps, for middle and high school teachers and students.

All registration for the UAH Cyber-Charged Camps is now closed.

The interactive summer camps are a result of UAH's work with GenCyber, a program funded by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation. The national program was designed to educate K-12 teachers and students about the need for more cybersecurity experts. The UAH Cyber-Charged Camps are free to all accepted participants.

"UAH will host two camps for teachers, 25 teachers are enrolled in the "Introduction to Computing and Cybersecurity Camp," offered June 27 - July 1. And, 15 teachers are enrolled in the "Advanced Cybersecurity Camp," held July 18 - 22," said Dr. Tommy Morris, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and UAH Director for The Center for Cybersecurity.

During the two one-week camps, teachers from around the state will meet with cyber experts and industry professionals, learn basic programming concepts, fundamental cybersecurity concepts, introduction to network security, malware, social engineering, digital forensics and cryptography.

The UAH Cyber-Charged Camp for rising eighth through 10th grade students interested in the cybersecurity field will also meet July 18 - 22. Students will learn the building blocks of a computer, cybersecurity first principles, computer operating systems and software, safe online behavior, cyber threats, firewalls and virus scanning and cyberdefenses. The camp also includes lunch, workshops, and field trips to local cybersecurity company facilities. The week will culminate in a competition where students will demonstrate online activities following best practices.
