Biography

Axel is currently the COO of System Insight Engineering (SIE), a Denver-based company that is set to disrupt how medical devices are developed and tested. SIE’s expertise lies within computational modeling and more specifically in the area of how medical devices affect human tissue. Prior to SIE, he served as COO of SweetBio, a company that he joined in its early stage and helped bring a novel bioengineered advanced wound care product through the FDA and into the US market. Axel is a senior operations and start-up expert with unparalleled breadth and over 18 years of experience within R&D, operations and technology commercialization. He has deep expertise in strategies, commercialization, venture capital and business growth, and experience with an array of technologies in Life Sciences and beyond.

Axel earned his master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. Through his involvement in a small Swedish start-up, he relocated to the United States in 2011 after being part of growing the company to over 100 people world-wide and establishing manufacturing in four countries. After that, Axel was invited to join the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization (CTTC) at Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt, Axel supported research teams in their efforts of bringing Life Science technologies to the market by providing guidance and direction to shorten the time from bench to bedside. He joined SweetBio as COO in 2017, where he specializes in product development, manufacturing operations, internal processes, and business strategies. With this wide range of experience with early stage technologies and in mentoring individuals and start-ups, Axel provides a unique perspective to help translate ideas into revenue.
