An “intern” is a person who desires to reserve a space in UAH Housing who is not enrolled in classes at UAH. This includes co-op students and visiting scholars. Each intern shall be required to fill out an application and pay a deposit fee prior to being assigned a room in housing. Reserving a Room Interns must complete an Intern Housing Application and submit $370 deposit to the Housing Office to reserve a room. The deposit will be applied to the balance due for housing. You may pay the fee by check, cash or credit card. Contact the Housing Office (256) 824-6108 to pay with a credit card. Please note: there is a 2.75% service fee on all credit/debit card transactions. There are a limited number of spaces for interns and assignments are made on a first come-first served basis. Once spaces are full, you will be notified and placed on a waiting list. Housing Options/Assignments/Limitations Availability Summer Intern Housing is available on May 25 and ends August 3, 2019. Room Assignment Room assignments are based on availability. There may be certain instances when an intern may be asked to make a room change. University Housing will make every effort to avoid changes. If relocation becomes necessary, UAH will notify the resident as far in advance as possible. You will receive your assignment either by mail or email as soon as it is able to be processed. Assignments may be delayed if we are in “assignment periods” for UAH students. If you have a question about your assignment, please contact the Housing Office. Rent Rent calculations are based on a weekly basis. The first day of the week begins on Saturday night through Friday night. The current weekly rate for a private bedroom, two bathroom suite/apartment, with up to three roommates is $185.00 on campus and $215.00 for the off campus apartments. Rate includes a furnished bedroom and common area, utilities, cable, parking pass and Internet access. Room rates do not include bed linens, paper products, parking fines, etc. Checking In to Your Room Interns check in at the front desk of the Residence Hall they are assigned. Interns living in off campus apartment will be notified of their check in location based on the apartment assignment. The assignment letter will provide the specific location for check in and the address. Check-In is 9 am - 5 pm on May 25th. Rules, Regulations and Policies Like UAH students, Interns and guests are held accountable for UAH rules and regulations and are expected to be responsible community members. The UAH Guide to Residence Living is posted at the Housing website and interns are responsible for the policies noted in the guide. Interns also sign a housing contract agreeing to abide by the rules and guidelines set by housing and the University. Failure to abide by UAH housing policies can result in being asked to leave University Housing. UAH is a smoke, tobacco, and vapor free campus. Information about UAH Housing Information about the residence halls at UAH is available online at www.uah.edu/housing. Frank Franz Hall is the primary building for summer housing. The four person suite consist of a private bedroom, one bathroom for two residents and four residents share a common area and one storage closet. Each bedroom is furnished with a bed, desk, and chest. Common areas have a microwave, refrigerator and sink. Furniture in the common area: a sofa, two arm chairs, a table and for chairs. Southeast Campus Housing is also summer school and intern housing. The number of available rooms is determined by the number of UAH students requesting summer school housing. The three person suite consist of a private bedroom, two bathrooms and one common sink area for three residents to share. Southeast Campus Housing has a common living area and a kitchen with a refrigerator, four-burner stove, sink and a small pantry. There is no microwave oven. Each bedroom is furnished with a loftable bed, desk, chest and closet. Furniture in the common area: a sofa, two arm chairs, a kitchen table and four chairs. Off Campus Apartments is another summer school and intern housing options. The number of available rooms is determined by the number of UAH students requesting summer school housing for this option. We have units within Ashford Terrace, Highland Pointe, Emerald Ridge, and Waterford Square. The units consist of private bedrooms within a two or three person furnished apartment. Internet Access UAH is part of the EDUroam network. If your home campus is part of this network and you have signed up to use EDUroam, your campus login credentials should connect you to the UAH EDUroam network. If you do not have EDUroam, a guest account and a password will be created for you. Gaming systems must be registered through the Office of Information and Technology. Identification Cards Interns are required to obtain a Guest ID card. ID cards are made in the Charger Union, Room 131. The ID card is your access to the residence hall and identifies you as a “resident.” Student ID’s are made Monday – Friday 8:15 to 5 pm. Please make arrangements to get your ID made. The Card Office charges $10 for an ID, $20 for a replacement ID (subject to change). Flex Accounts: An ID card can also be used as a declining balance card. A Flex Account allows you to use the laundry facilities in your residence hall, make purchases at the UAH Bookstore, Charger Café, Dunkin Donuts (CGU) and the Garden View Cafe. Money may be added with cash, check or credit card. Payment must be made at the Bursar's office in the Student Services Building, room 123, between the hours of 8:15 – 5:00 or call 256-824-6226. Once you pay in the cashier’s office, interns must go to Charger Union room 147 with payment receipt to credit money to the ID/Charger Card flex account. The Bursar’s office accepts a minimum deposit of $10.00 for Flex spending. Meal Service Food service operates during the summer service is on a modified schedule. Interns may eat in the Charger Cafe in the Conference Training Center or the Gardenview Cafe in the Bevill Center. Other dining options may be available on campus, and will be announced prior to the beginning of summer school. Dunkin Donuts is typically open 7am-2 pm Monday -Thursday. Interns are not required to purchase a meal plan. Laundry Facilities Our laundry facilities are located in each residence hall. The machines will take quarters or are set up to utilize a flex account on the ID cards for payment. A load of laundry , wash or dry, cost $1.25. Parking Zone parking has created adequate parking on campus at UAH. You are not required to purchase a parking decal unless you are enrolled in a class at UAH. The hang tag interns receive will be to the parking area designated for the residence hall you are assigned. Hang tags are issued at check in. You must submit your name, driver's license number, car tag number state in order to receive the hang tag. Interns living in off campus apartments will not need UAH hang tags. Bicycles There are bike racks at each residence hall. You are required to register your bike with Campus Police. Registration is free. Please bring your own lock to secure your bike outside in the bike rake. Bicycles are not allowed in the buildings.
