Our current Honors student in the spotlight is Anneliese DeVyldere. Anneliese is one of 21 seniors graduating from the Honors Program this academic year.
Where are you from and what high school did you attend?
I’m from Salem, Oregon and I was home schooled.
What were you involved with during your high school years?
I was involved with the OMSI Rising Stars Program, Salem Academy Choir, Salem Heights Arizona Reservation Missions, and Sound Jubilee Choir.
What is your major and class here at UAH?
I’m a senior majoring in Communication Arts.
What are your plans after graduation?
I’d like to pursue graduate studies to start a career in disability diagnosis counseling.
What do you ultimately see yourself doing career-wise?
I see myself developing counseling resources for parents whose children are diagnosed with physical disabilities.
What kind of research have you performed during your time here at UAHuntsville?
I’ve performed research into how the legally blind develop nonverbal communication and resources for improving their nonverbal communication through education and training.
What else are you involved in at UAHuntsville?
I’ve been involved with the UAHuntsville Concert Choir, UAH Apollo Project, Humans vs. Zombies planning committee, and Lambda Pi Eta (Communication Honors Society).
What are your thoughts on the Honors Program? How has it impacted your time at UAHuntsville?
The program’s small size and fascinating classes provide a challenging and supportive environment that has made my experience at UAHuntsville. I found the program both rewarding and advantageous. The highlight for me was the Honors research project, followed closely by the interdisciplinary seminars.
