Dear Parents
Once a student is registered for classes, they may take advantage of the services provided by the Student Health Center. The Student Health Center is designed to meet our students’ basic health care needs. Our services include treatment of acute illnesses, physicals for nursing students and pre-employment/internships, gynecological services, vaccinations and various testing. The nurse practitioners may prescribe medications as needed.
The Student Health Center does NOW accept certain health insurance plans (BCBS, AL Medicaid, and others) but we also offer a self-pay discount if the student does not have insurance or if we are not in-network with your plan.
Health promotion and wellness education is a big part of our outreach to students. We speak at length to our students regarding maintaining healthy lifestyles while in college. Health education brochures and information are provided throughout the academic year.
Our nurse practitioners work with the UAH Counseling Center to meet our student’s needs, addressing issues surrounding a distressed student and prevention. All information is kept confidential.
