If you were about to try something new for the first time would you want to face it alone or with someone to help you along the way by answering your questions and giving you advice to help you succeed?
We’re willing to bet you’d feel better having someone along on your journey that you could reach out to as needed. While you may be able to succeed on your own, there’s a huge benefit to having someone on your side to support you. The same can be said for having a mentor to support you in your career and professional development. Guidance from a mentor can help not only with your career path, but also with expanding your network.
A great mentor can help shape your career by urging you to consider your future, providing wisdom and advice from their experiences, and asking the tough questions about your career choices. Sound like something you’d benefit from? UAH Career Services can help connect you with a mentor through the Mentor-A-Charger (MAC) Program this Fall.
MAC is a mentorship program that pairs students with members of the professional community. Students of all majors and academic levels are encouraged to participate. Mentors and mentees will interact through one-on-one meetings (primarily virtually this Fall) to discuss job interests, professional advice, life skills, and needs determined by the mentee and/or mentor. The program begins in September and runs through December each year.
To get the most out of the MAC Program, think about why you’d like to have a Mentor. What do you hope to get out of the connection? Are you willing to put in the time to meet with your mentor and take their advice and suggestions to improve? Where do you see yourself going in your career? What areas of your professional persona would you like to improve on? What questions do you have that a mentor could answer? It’s okay if you don’t have all the answers, but taking some time to reflect on these questions and sharing your answers in the online sign up can help Career Services pair you with a mentor that will be a great fit for you. .
