Meet Haley Schumann, a junior majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Haley is also a part of the i4 program, and she is currently working for Teledyne Brown Engineering! Continue reading to learn more about Haley’s i4 experience and her job.

1. How has i4 helped you with your personal career development?

The i4 program has allowed me to hear from employers first hand on what they’re looking for in a future employee.

2. What kind of responsibilities do you hold at Teledyne Brown Engineering?

My responsibilities include interfacing with customers and suppliers, verifying and compiling data, and managing schedules of part manufacturing.

3. How was the transition from a summer intern to a part-time employee at the company?

It was fairly easy. My responsibilities didn’t change, only my schedule did. The hardest part was forming a 20 hour schedule around multiple classes per day. Teledyne has been very understanding and supportive, so they let me adjust depending on my school workload as needed.

4.What is your office environment like at Teledyne?

I get to work with two other people from my i4 cohort as well as three awesome professionals. They’ve been doing this for a long time, and I learn so much from just watching them. They’re also incredibly patient, and they take time to explain things that I don’t understand.

5. How have you used what you learn at school in your work?

My classes have taught me basic engineering that I am able to apply to whatever task/problem I’m assigned to work on.

6. How difficult is balancing a job and schoolwork?

Time management is key. I work 20 hours a week while taking 16 credit hours. It can be done though if you focus and take things one day at a time.

7. How is your position at Teledyne preparing you for your career after graduation?

Having my part-time job is teaching me how to juggle work and life at the same time. I am able to get used to an actual work environment that you’re not exposed to in a classroom setting.

8. What advice would you give to someone who is looking for an internship or co-op?

I would advise them to constantly update your resume to reflect your most valuable skills and take advantage of opportunities like the career fair that Career Services hosts every semester.

9. What is your favorite part of working at Teledyne Brown Engineering?

Definitely the people! All of my coworkers are absolutely amazing. They always go out of their way to help me learn new skills and they trust my input and make me feel valued.

If you’d like to learn more about the i4 program and how to apply, be sure to attend the i4 interest meeting on Friday, November 1 from 1-2 pm in the Charger Union Theater.
