Today we talk with Valerie Primeau from the Corporate Communications team at Sierra Nevada Corporation and hear more about the ins and outs of the company and how they're pursuing their mission right here in Huntsville!

  1. How is the work atmosphere at Sierra Nevada Corporation?

At Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), we are proud that our teams are comprised of people who believe in mutual respect, innovation, and a drive to solve real-world problems. We are an agile aerospace and national security contractor that designs, manufactures, and enhances spacecraft, aircraft, ground vehicles, electronics, hardware, and software.

  1. What roles are available at the company?

We are 4000-people strong at SNC, with people from software developers to aerospace engineers, from cybersecurity professionals to mechanic specialists, and from structural technicians to human resource business partners.

  1. What is your favorite project you have worked on at SNC and can you give us a little information about it?

SNC regularly features “employee spotlights” which means we share some of the projects and personalities of all-star employees. I really enjoy the opportunity to get to know people who work on projects ranging from e-health (a new system that helps first responders monitor their patients and how much medicine they received while “out in the field” to people building A-29’s. I really enjoy sharing the stories and successes of the people who work here.

  1. What does SNC value most in an employee?

SNC is continuing to grow quickly, while being an agile contractor. This means we are constantly taking on new projects and working to solve new problems. That means it’s important that all the people who work here are motivated to work hard, and have a learning mindset.

  1. What initially drew you to SNC and how has the company changed since?

Since our owners, Chairwoman and President Eren Ozmen and CEO Faith Ozmen acquired the company 25 years ago, it has grown from a handful of people to now nearly 4,000. When you have such monumental growth, there is a lot of change. Specifically, the scale and breadth of programs and the ways in which you are able to help the customer. But one thing that has not changed in all that time is the family feel. Although we are a tier 1 defense and aerospace contractor, you still feel like part of “the SNC” family. It’s nice that people say hello to you - even those who may not know you personally - as you’re walking down the hallway.

  1. How does SNC help its employees with career development?

One of the great things about SNC is the ability to grow both in your role and at the company. SNC has a tuition reimbursement program, which means you can continue your professional development at school, and then bring those new skills back to SNC.

  1. What is your favorite thing about working at SNC?

My favorite thing is, without a doubt, the people. Regardless of the department they are in, everyone I’ve met and had the pleasure of working with at SNC, is friendly, collaborative, and genuinely cares.

  1. What advice do you have for prospective Sierra Nevada Corporation candidates?

Show your willingness to learn. Curiosity and a desire to learn are important here, because our teams are constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

  1. What is the best kept secret of your company’s Huntsville location?

Our office is located in the epicenter of all things defense and space. The SNC office is located right outside of Redstone Arsenal (Gate 9), walking distance to Rocket City Tavern, a mile from Bridge Street Town Centre and the Space and Rocket Center. We have such an amazing city and we are proud to be a part of a growing community! There are so many amazing opportunities at our fingertips and we are lucky to be a part of this culture!

Our mission at SNC is to “Dream. Innovate. Inspire.” and we are doing just that right in the heart of Huntsville!

  1. What is the most interesting thing that has happened to you on the job at SNC?

It’s particularly interesting getting to meet our engineers and project managers, and learning more about what they do. When you get onto the floor and meet the people who are building and innovating every day, you understand how our teams are solving real-world problems, the ways we are helping to keep people safe, and the creativity that goes into each product.

Thanks to SNC for chatting with us.  Be sure to stop by their table at Career Fair on September 4!
