There are countless ways to get plugged into the UAH community. Today we discuss the clubs and organizations on campus, different ways to get involved, and how involvement can lead to employment.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville makes it easy to get involved both on campus and throughout the city of Huntsville. Student Organizations are a vital part of the UAH community, and there are over 200 organizations for students to join! UAH students can pick from clubs they are interested in, service organizations, Greek organizations, or even create their own club! There are a wide variety of options for involvement at UAH, such as Beekeeping Club, Student Government Association, Fishing Club, Intramural Sports, Anime Club, Cru, Green Club and so much more! There is something for everyone at UAH, and it is encouraged for every student to find at least one club or organization they want to be a part of.

Student involvement is essential to a balanced, successful college career and at UAH, it is a priority to give the students as many chances to get involved as possible. Joining a club or organization or volunteering not only makes your college experience more memorable, it also provides networking opportunities and connections that can help launch a career a few years down the road. Having clubs and organizations on a resume is an overall great way to stand out to an employer and boost your career while also finding an organization you are passionate about.

One of the easiest ways to find the perfect place to get involved is to attend the Charger Express Involvement Fair. It is an annual event that occurs during Week of Welcome (WOW) in the fall. This fall, the Involvement Fair will take place on Tuesday, August 20th on the Salmon Library lawn from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Representatives from the majority of the clubs and organizations on campus will be there to explain their organization, answer questions, and hand out some goodies!

Week of Welcome is another fantastic way to get involved on campus and find your niche. During WOW, all of the clubs and organizations that are present on campus will host different events throughout the week to get to know both the new and existing Chargers.

Another way to get involved is to create your own club! Although UAH has over 200 to choose from, there is always something new that can be created! To start a new club, a student simply needs four friends and a faculty or staff advisor. This is also a fun, creative way to leave your mark on UAH. The Office of Student Life is a helpful point of contact when looking to start a new club or organization.

For those students who prefer to get involved by giving back, UAH has several service organizations to choose from. A few are service trips during fall break and spring break, our annual fall Helping Hands of Huntsville day of service, the Big Event, and Dance Marathon. Giving back is a great way to put yourself out there and make connections in the community.

Getting involved in the UAH community does not just benefit you, it benefits your future career. Being a part of clubs and organizations and volunteering are a great way to build up a resume. Future employers want students who are engaged and active in their community, and being involved is a good way to demonstrate this. Especially for students with little job experience, involvement in an organization can boost a resume tremendously. This also gives employers something personal to ask about in interviews. For example, a student involved in Green Club can discuss with an employer how this taught them about the importance of giving back to their community, what volunteer work means to them, or their take on sustainability.

The UAH community is full of helping hands and positive attitudes, and the clubs and organizations exhibit the same energy. Kick start your college career by getting involved today!
