Capitol scholar Caleb March aims to lead by example

By: Naomi Misori

Having transferred over 1,300 miles from a community college in Maine to The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), Caleb March, a first-generation college student, wasted no time in cementing himself within the college community, seizing every opportunity that came his way.

During his time at UAH, March has become a College of Business (COB) ambassador, acting as a representative for the college.

“In my role as a COB ambassador, I represent the COB to the public while recruiting and retaining students to the college,” says March. “It is a public-relations position that has given me experience working with officials and dignitaries.”

March is a proud member of his fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega. He is the finance director of their annual philanthropy fundraising events, Battle of the Buffalo and Auto Emporium. These events’ proceeds go towards cancer and Alzhemizer’s research respectively. Furthermore, he also serves in the alumni relations position, which exposed him to the Capitol Scholars Program. The Capitol Scholars Program is a summer internship program in Washington, D.C., for a select group of exceptional University of Alabama System students who plan to pursue a career opportunity in or around the federal government.

“As part of this opportunity, I will be working with the congressmen and delegations our state has sent and get a firsthand impression of how the politics of our state and country work,” says March.

“As a College of Business ambassador and UAH student leader, Caleb demonstrates professionalism and goes out of his way to welcome others,” says UAH College of Business Marketing and Events Manager Drew Yarbrough. “He represents UAH incredibly well, and I am confident that he will go far in his professional career and personal life.”

March has maintained a 3.8 GPA, displaying his position as a high-achieving college student.

March is also an active member of the Accounting Connections and Conversations Club and works part- time at the UAH Systems Management and Production Center (SMAP).

“I have always been somebody who likes to achieve things, and I want to lead by example,” March explains when asked about his feelings on being in the Top 20. “I am a team leader, so I like to gather and bring a group of people with me. My success is their success, and their success is my success.”

March attributes the UAH COB to opening the doors to many opportunities. “I’ve gotten to do many cool things, like watch the former president, George H.W. Bush, speak at the Thrive dinner. I’ve gotten to meet with upper university leadership. It helped me get the Capitol Scholars Program and has connected me with alumni,” March says.

March continues by saying that the college has helped him fine-tune his soft abilities, like interviewing and speaking in public.

March is expected to graduate in May 2026 with a bachelor's in accounting, concentrating on federal contracting. He is currently on the pre-law track and plans to attend either Samford University or the University of Alabama for law school. With his goal-oriented mindset, March is bound for success in all his endeavors.
