Apply Now IMMERSE - Empowering community engaged servant leadership through an immersive experience. UAH College of Business students accepted into the IMMERSE program will have the opportunity to make an impact in the Huntsville community and beyond. Program Purpose Empower business students to make a difference on campus, in their communities, and in their future workplaces by applying what they learn on the trip to D.C. and through their volunteer service Provide business students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in servant leadership and welcoming business practices Provide business students with the opportunity to speak with and learn from industry professionals focused on welcoming business practices and community engagement Provide business students with the opportunity to network with government leaders and business professionals in the D.C. metro area Activity Overview Community Service - Students will identify a non-profit organization to work with throughout the semester. Trip to D.C. - Students will travel to Washington, D.C. to immerse themselves in learning about welcoming business practices and community engagement. Program Schedule for Accepted Students February 6, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. - Welcome and program review February 16, 2024 at 10 a.m. - Students share what organization they have committed to supporting, share what they have done so far, and prepare for the trip to D.C. April 10 - 13, 2024 - Travel to Washington, D.C. April 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. - Final Presentations - Student share what they accomplished and what they learned along the way Community Service Details As part of the IMMERSE program, students will identify a non-profit organization to work with throughout the semester. Students have the freedom to choose any organization they would like to serve. Students also have a lot of flexibility regarding the type of service they provide to the organization. Students can serve in a volunteer role that already exists, or if the student wishes to apply the skills that they have learned in the classroom they can serve in that way as well (Ex: Accounting major helps an organization with their accounting processes). The student should collaborate with the organization to see what service opportunities are available. Students are expected to complete a total of at least 15 service hours during the semester. Washington, D.C. Trip Details Business students will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for FREE to speak with and learn from industry professionals focused on welcoming business practices and community engagement. Students will also network with government leaders and business professionals in the D.C. metro area. Trip Dates: April 10 - 13, 2024 Sample Itinerary (Subject to change) Day 1 Evening flight from HSV to Washington, D.C. Day 2 Industry Visit - Visit a campany HQ to learn about welcoming business practices and community relations Networking lunch with the company leadership team The National Museum for African American History and Culture Day 3 Tour of the U.S. Capitol Meet Alabama government leaders Night Tour of D.C. Day 4 Free time Afternoon flight from Washington, D.C. to HSV Other: Business students will travel with UAH COB representatives. Class excuse notes will be provided to those who are selected to attend. Travel costs for selected UAH business students will be covered. This includes airfare, hotel, transportation, all tours, etc.) You might be asked to cover a lunch or two. Selected students will share a hotel room, but will have their own bed.
