Written by: Seth Wilhite April 13, 2017 Autumn has arrived, and in keeping with the color change of the fall leaves, the College of Business is making some changes of its own. The most visible change is the recently-started renovation of our Business Administration Building. Once the carpenters, electricians, and painters have completed their work on this phase of our update, we will enjoy a rejuvenated atrium, brighter hallways, and a brand new finance lab. This fall also brought quite a few firsts for the College of Business. We kicked-off the semester by hosting the inaugural professional etiquette dinner for all incoming freshmen and transfer students. Students learned key aspects of business professionalism, such dressing for success, making a good first impression through introductions, and networking with others – all the while using proper table etiquette. I think it is safe to say that we all learned something! As part of our new strategic initiative in space commerce, we hosted a Space Commercialization Workshop in conjunction with the Wernher von Braun Memorial Symposium in October. Executives from space companies and experts in the field of space commerce shared their expertise in the history of the American space program and what space innovations to expect in the future. In collaboration with the new D.S. Davidson Invention to Innovation Center (I2C), we welcomed more than one hundred local high school students to campus for the first annual beE (be Entrepreneurial) event. Teams from various high schools presented business plans before a panel of accomplished entrepreneurs who served as judges. The College of Business remains proud of the accomplishments of our students, faculty and alumni. This edition features the innovative concierge service used by graduate student Carla Ellis, co-founder of Morph, a Huntsville-based start-up. Shelby Hall, a marketing major, shares how her time as a Disney intern impacted her college and career plans. Learn about the cutting-edge research of Professor Sophia Marinova, highlighting the surging women’s movement as it relates to corporate America. We are excited to share how our alumni continue to advance our community and our world. Jami Peyton’s inspirational story toward becoming CEO of her own company is one of perseverance in the face of adversity. Read how UAH alumnus Ashley Keeble (’03, BS, Finance) put into practice her finance education in a remote camp in South Sudan and other African locations. We were so proud to see Ms. Keeble recognized earlier this month as the first UAH Young Alumni of Achievement Award winner. Fall is in the air in Huntsville. The leaves have turned gold and red, but the College of Business remains Charger Blue! We look forward to sharing more of our story in the coming New Year. In the meantime, we wish you and your family a warm and joyful holiday season. Warm regards, Jason T. Greene, Dean
