Destination Imagination

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will host the Destination ImagiNation Inc., state tournament on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m., to 6 p.m.

Destination ImagiNation (DI), is an educational program where student teams solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. The worldwide program is for students in kindergarten through university level.

Between 300 and 400 students, third graders through high school seniors, plus their parents, siblings and supporters, will assemble in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology, University Center, Charger Union and the College of Business Administration for tournament events. The university program leader is Dr. Rhonda K. Gaede, associate professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UAH.

Winners of the Alabama state tournament will advance to the global finals to be held at the University of Tennessee in May.

DI began in the summer of 1999, when nearly 200 international volunteers united to create a global creative problem-solving program that would provide students with an exciting, joyful and supportive experience. Today, DI has an extensive global network and a devoted staff to carry out its programs.
