Staff Senate met virtually for their September meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11 AM. The following are recap notes from the meeting. 

  • Dining Dollar promotion of buying $100 Dining Dollars and getting $20 FREE is available through September 26th.
  • Dining Services is currently selling reusable mugs with unlimited refills for the Fall/Spring semesters for $65 plus tax.
  • The Fall Break hours of operation have been posted.
  • The Student Success Center is continuing the workshop series, “Charge into Success”. This session focuses on, “Improving Study Habits”. Students can register via their website, the days/times are Monday, September 27th at 11 AM in LIB # 111 and Tuesday, September 28th at 3 PM via Zoom.
  • Plans are in the works for an in-person commencement ceremony on December 13th (and possibly December 14th). All 2020 and 2021 graduates are invited but must RSVP by September 24th as space is limited.
  • UAH has a 3 year $600,000 NSF grant to study observations involving aerosols and organic compounds found typically over forested regions. This is headed up by Dr. Shanhu Lee, Associate Professor of Atmospheric Science.
  • A UAH Atmospheric and Earth Science Department team is/was working in Louisiana during Hurricane Ida with the NOAA National Severe Storms Lab.
  • There is a new engagement portal: CHARGER CONNECT – all things Student Engagement (Register for events, announcements, RSOs, student events calendar. This is replacing the old UAH student events calendar. Access through my.uah.edu (Student Affairs tab) or direct link at: uah.campuslabs.com/engage
  • Homecoming is October 27-30. The theme is, Lights, Camera, HOCO: Huntsville Takes Hollywood (Movie Theme). This will overlap Family Weekend (October 29-31). More information will be coming soon for competition registration. Please participate and show your Charger Pride. We are very excited to be able to host Homecoming this year after having to cancel in 2020.
  • Volunteers are needed for an ODEI project: We want to hear from you! Storytelling and listening to others’ experiences are ways in which we can increase our understanding and empathy for one another. The ODEI is currently developing a storytelling series entitled, “Speak Your Truth”. This series will include recorded discussion panels and interviews regarding a variety of topics surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
