The start of a new academic year is nearly upon us! Please join us as we celebrate Convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018.

Alumni are invited to attend the UAH Alumni Association Annual Meeting, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Charger Union Theater. "The Annual Meeting is a great opportunity for alumni to connect for the first time!" says Natalie Wrinkle, president of the UAH Alumni Association. Along with networking opportunities, the meeting will also consist of a brief business session during which alumni can learn more about the UAH Alumni Association and how to get involved, recognize retiring directors, honor the Board Member of the Year, and vote on the 2018-2019 slate of directors and officers. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, connect, and vote! Refreshments and free UAH giveaways will be available to all alumni attending.

Following the Annual Meeting is Convocation, during which incoming freshmen walk in procession down the UAH Greenway. Attending is a great way to show support for the future graduates of UAH and to meet potential candidates for UAH’s new mentorship program, Mentor-A-Charger. "This program will match current students of all academic majors with mentors in the Huntsville community," says Wrinkle. "We are currently seeking alumni to serve as mentors and provide valuable insight for UAH students."

Convocation begins at 7 p.m. Special guest speaker and UAH alumna Natashia Reese will speak to the importance of alumni involvement with their alma mater. With UAH expanding and improving every year, John Maxon, associate vice president of Student Affairs, explains how the continuing involvement of alumni has helped shape some of the positive changes seen on campus. "With the campus transitioning as rapidly as it has over the past 10 years or so to a more traditional style of campus, there needs to be a healthy respect for the history of the campus from a student perspective. Alumni certainly bring that to any conversation. Conversely, I also feel that alumni can play an active role in shaping the institution’s future by staying connected and by continuing to be an involved member of the campus community."

The evening will conclude with the President’s Picnic, a free event to all alumni! Dinner and live music will be provided as alumni gather and mingle, followed by a firework show that celebrates the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year. With so many exciting and expanding opportunities for UAH alumni to get involved and give back, this year’s Annual Meeting and Convocation celebration is one that should not be missed!

Alumni, please RSVP to alumni@uah.edu and indicate which events you will be attending. We look forward to having you back on campus!
