Fall 2024 Audition Information
UAH Theatre is holding auditions for its mainstage production of The Antelope Party, a dark comedy about a group of adult “My Little Pony” fans whose friendship falls apart as darkness and paranoia takes over their corner of Equestria, written by Eric John Meyer, and directed by Amy Guerin.
Auditions are Monday, August 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for majors and from 7:00-9:00 p.m. for non-majors and community members in the Morton Hall Blackbox Theatre. Majors should prepare a one-minute contemporary comedic or dramatic monologue and bring a resume and headshot; non-majors and community members can prepare a one-minute comedic or dramatic monologue or be given a monologue to read. Non-majors and community members will fill out a form at auditions.
The Antelope Party needs 6 total actors, 3 of whom can play female-presenting characters, 3 of whom can play male-presenting characters, and at least three actors as understudies. This play includes curse words, gaslighting, depictions of violence, descriptions of violence, consensual romance, and nonconsensual attempted romantic contact. The intimacy and violence in The Antelope Party will be staged by the director, Amy Guerin, who is trained as an Intimacy Director. Prof Guerin is happy to answer any questions you have about the intimacy and violence process we will follow in this production.
Please read and understand the following character descriptions regarding intimacy and violence in The Antelope Party.
- Ben, male-presenting, Black: comes onstage in scene 6 (page 32) with a bloody nose in a fight that occurs unseen and unheard offstage
- Shawn, male-presenting, white: shares a consensual kiss with Maggie in scene 6 (page 37), and attempts to nonconsensually embrace and kiss Maggie in scene 8 (page 70). His attempt is unsuccessful.
- Doug, male-presenting, any race: is gaslit 5 different times by the other characters throughout the course of the play
- Rachel, female-presenting, white: is gaslit, and verbally and physically threatened by Maggie in scene 6 (page 54)
- Maggie, female-presenting, Black: shares a consensual kiss with Shawn in scene 6 (page 37), and successfully rebuffs Shawn’s attempts to nonconsensually embrace and kiss her in scene 8 (page 70). Maggie spits in Shawn’s face in scene 8 (page 70), and physically and verbally threatens Rachel in scene 6 (page 54.) Offstage in scene 1, Maggie is taken off the street and pulled into a car by a group of men in an incident that is unheard and unseen. She is not physically harmed by the men.
