Peer Collective Mentorship Program

The University of Alabama in Huntsville and Mentor Collective have collaborated to roll out the OACE Peer Collective Mentorship Program. The Peer Collective Mentorship Program enhances the student experience by linking them one-on-one with a peer mentor. New students are matched with returning students who are invested in their success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges, and recognize opportunities. Students will learn what to expect in school, how to seek help and resources, and how to approach challenges. At the same time, mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better leaders.

How it Works

Students will be matched with a peer mentor based on common interests, background, academics, and/or professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experiences.

Once matched, mentees and mentors will decide the best frequency to interact and how best to interact, i.e. via Zoom, text, lunch in Charger Union, etc., but should interact at least once a month.

What do Mentors and Mentees Discuss?

Discussions between mentors and mentees can vary widely. This is because the needs of each mentee will differ. However, some common topics/questions include:

  • What career options are available with my/our major?
  • Do you have any tips on passing Calculus?
  • I'm thinking of joining the Honors College, what do you know about it?
  • Study tips.
  • Advice on balancing academics and a social life.
  • What are some good student organizations to join?
