UA System Capitol Scholars internship program is taking applications for Summer 2026

Applications are now open for the University of Alabama (UA) System Capitol Scholars Program, an immersive summer internship experience in Washington, D.C., designed for high-achieving students from UA System campuses who are interested in careers in or around government.

This prestigious program offers students hands-on internships and experiential learning opportunities with key offices throughout the nation's capital, including placements with members of Alabama’s congressional delegation, congressional committees and government affairs agencies.

Participants will gain firsthand insight into the workings of government while developing critical leadership skills and learning the fundamentals of policy research, analysis, and advocacy. Capitol Scholars will also benefit from professional networking opportunities with policy experts, government officials and UA System alumni working in Washington, D.C.

The Capitol Scholars Program serves two key purposes: to provide transformative, merit-based opportunities for students interested in public service, and to build a strong network of civic-minded UA System alumni committed to serving the state of Alabama.

Key Dates:

  • Applications Open: Monday, August 18, 2025
  • Application Deadline: Friday, September 12, 2025, at Noon
  • Virtual Interest Meeting: Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
