Once nominated, candidates will be required to complete an application, an essay, and a personal interview. A total of 60 girls will then be chosen from those nominated to attend the residential camp (at a total cost of $50) from June 21-27 on the UAH campus. UAH's Tech Trek is hosted in partnership with the Huntsville branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). A weeklong residential camp, it immerses rising eighth-grade girls in a world that empowers and encourages them to think about themselves as future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and computer specialists. Tech Trek was first launched in 1998 at Stanford University and has since expanded to over 20 college campuses across the U.S. The program, which is sponsored by the AAUW, has a demonstrated history of success in breaking through barriers for women and girls in STEM, with Tech Trek alumnae far exceeding their contemporaries in participation and persistence in STEM education and careers.
