Gulf Scholars Program at UAH and CCC The Gulf Scholars Program (GSP) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and Calhoun Community College (CCC) is a fully funded interdisciplinary certificate program designed to prepare the next generation of leaders to tackle the complex challenges of sustainability, safety, and resilience in the Gulf of Mexico region. Rooted in collaboration, cultural competence, and holistic learning, the program empowers undergraduate students to become informed, community-driven change agents. Drawing on the diverse academic strengths of UAH and CCC, the GSP integrates perspectives from the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, natural sciences, and business. This broad, interdisciplinary foundation enables students to approach real-world problems with creativity, empathy, and rigor. Our Mission The mission of the UAH-CCC Gulf Scholars Program is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to drive positive change in the Gulf region. By fostering academic engagement and cross-disciplinary collaboration, the program develops future professionals and advocates committed to building a more just, sustainable, and resilient Gulf Coast. Program Goals To enhance environmental literacy, reflecting a deep understanding of the significance of environmental issues and a comprehension of the complex challenges of safety, sustainability, and resilience specific to the Gulf region. To empower participants through academic engagement and holistic growth to serve as change agents for safety, resiliency, and sustainability in the Gulf region. To promote relationships between participants, Gulf region populations, and marginalized and underserved groups to create inclusive, community-based solutions for resiliency and sustainability.
