The UAH Department of History will host distinguished scholar of Islamic and Modern Middle East History, Dr. Juan Cole, for a lecture entitled, "Trump, Islam and the Middle East."  The lecture will take place on Thursday, September 28, 7:30 pm, at Chan Auditorium on UAH's campus. 

This event is free and open to the public.  A reception will follow.

 This event is sponsored by the Department of History, the Eminent Scholars Program at the Humanities Center in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, and the UAH Distinguished Speaker’s Series in the Office of the Provost.

Dr. Juan Cole is Richard P. Mitchell Professor of History and Director for the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies at the University of Michigan. He is author of several books on the history and religion of the Middle East and U.S.-Middle East Relations, including Colonialism and Revolution in the Middle East:  Social and Cultural Origins of Egypt’s ‘Urabi Movement (1993), Modernity and the Millennium:  The Genesis of the Baha'i Faith in the Nineteenth-Century Middle East (1998), Napoleon’s Egypt:  Invading the Middle East (2007), Engaging the Muslim World (2009) and The New Arabs:  How the Millennial Generation is Changing the Middle East (2014).  In 2016, he was awarded the John W. Kluge Chair of Countries and Cultures of the South from the Library of Congress.  He is currently working on a manuscript on the idea of peace in the Qur’an.
