"The Howling Storm: Weather, Climate, and the American Civil War" Conference/Lecture Wednesday, March 24, 2021 The event started -1275 days agoMultiday event - 0 days 7:00 PM Online Zoom Distinguished Speaker Series Presents: Dr. Kenneth W. Noe, Draughon Professor of Southern History at Auburn University "The Howling Storm: Weather, Climate, and the American Civil War" The Howling Storm is the first comprehensive examination of weather and climate during the Civil War. Climate conditions during the war proved unusual, as irregular phenomena such as El Niño, La Niña, and similar oscillations in the Atlantic Ocean disrupted weather patterns across southern states. Taking into account these meteorological events, Dr. Noe rethinks conventional explanations of battlefield victories and losses, compelling historians to reconsider long-held conclusions about the war.
