U.S. Export Controls for Universities
Mr. James E. Bartlett III
Law Office of James E. Bartlett III and Partner – Full Circle Compliance
UAH is committed to upholding and preserving our principles of academic freedom, which reflects the University’s mission of education, research, and public service. At the same time, the University must comply with all applicable U.S. export control laws and regulations.
UAH is also a research-intensive University and receives research funding from a number of federal entities, including the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, NASA, and NOAA, many of which are located in very close geographic proximity to the UAH campus. Furthermore, UAH serves as the anchor tenant for Cummings Research Park, which is home to over 285 high-tech companies, many of which are engaged in high-tech research. Because of this environment, UAH faculty, staff, and students often find themselves at the cutting edge of technology.
The intent of this presentation is to give UAH faculty, staff and students an overview of ITAR and Export Control laws and regulations, and to explore its importance at PhD-granting research universities such as UAH. This presentation would benefit both U.S. Citizens and foreign nationals.
Attendees of this presentation will receive credit for their required annual export training. For those individuals with personnel security clearances, this will also count as their required annual refresher security training.
RSVPs to denise.spiller@uah.edu are appreciated, but not required, for the purpose of refreshment planning.
