Nov 20, 2020 | Mary McManus View a printable version of this worksheet This worksheet of considerations is intended for faculty teaching a course face-to-face with regularly scheduled meetings. Communication How do I communicate with my students? How do I want to communicate with them if we are unable to meet face-to-face? What alternate forms of communication could I use if my preferred form is not available? How quickly will I communicate with them if we are unable to meet face-to-face? Logistics Consider what you do in your face-to-face course that can be transferred to an online modality. Do you want to convert the face-to-face meeting to a synchronous virtual meeting? If yes, what technology will you use to do that (Zoom, Panopto, Google Meet, other)? Do you have this technology and do you know how to use it? Do you have (or have access to) instructions for students on how to obtain and use the technology? Do you have or can you quickly obtain the technology/hardware to convert your class? This could include webcam, tablet for use as a whiteboard surface, stable internet connection or other. Do you want to use previously developed materials to substitute for the face-to-face meeting? If previously recorded class meetings are used, are any students identifiable by face, name or voice? If yes, then FERPA guidelines prevent their use in courses other than the one in which they were recorded. Do you know where those recordings are stored in Panopto? It might be a good idea to gather those recordings in a Panopto folder not linked to a specific instance of a course. Do you have face-to-face activities that you would like to convert to online modality? How could you do this? Is there a technology you need to accomplish this? If yes, what technology will you use to do that (Zoom, Panopto, Google Meet, other)? Do you have this technology and do you know how to use it? Do you have (or have access to) instructions for students on how to obtain and use the technology? Do you have a quiz/test during this time? Will you postpone those for a short disruption? Will you convert it to an online assessment? Who could you work with on campus to accomplish it in your absence?
