Lunch and Learn: Communication and Social Interaction

Have you ever had a student not understand your conversation was finished? Have you had a student tell you not to talk to them or not to interrupt them? Communication and social interactions with students on the autism spectrum can be a challenge. Join us for a discussion of how to better facilitate interactions one-on-one and in a group to achieve better outcomes. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 am; discussion will begin at noon.

Lunch and Learn: Accommodations and College Students on the Spectrum

As UAH faculty and staff, most of us want to help our students achieve their goals. At this session we will discuss the term “accommodations” and how we as faculty and staff can better support our students.  This session will focus on the principles of universal design for learning and how these principles can help support our students with an autism spectrum disorder. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 am; discussion will begin at noon.

The number of students in our classrooms who are on the spectrum is likely to grow. We are a regional university with in an area with a growing number of students on the spectrum. How do we design group discussions, assignments, and courses to make sure these students are included and thrive? Join us for a discussion on this topic.
