Biography

Prior to retirement, Mr. Leonard served as the Patriot Interoperability Test Lead at the Software Engineering Directorate at Redstone Arsenal where he received various commendations for his work. He has over 40 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, and Verification and Validation (V&V) as a Project Lead, Systems Engineer, Real-time Software Development Lead, Modeling & Simulation Lead, and Process Engineer primarily involving Air Missile Defense, Ground Combat Systems, and Space Shuttle Main Engine Controller V&V.

He earned a Master's in Operations Research from The University of Alabama in Huntsville and a Bachelor's in Computer Science from The University of Alabama. He has also earned certifications from the Defense Acquisition University in both Systems Planning, Research, Development and Engineering (SPRDE) Level III with a Systems Engineering emphasis and Test and Evaluation Level III.

Mr. Leonard is a past President of the Huntsville Regional Chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). He has received a patent for a software engineering product and has given several presentations at technical conferences resulting in published papers, including one in Informatica, an international technical journal. Mr. Leonard is an Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) as designated by INCOSE, one of only seven in the State of Alabama and 300 worldwide.
