Emma Langford says ‘Yes!’ to opportunity while inspiring others
By Hunter Anderson
Emma Langford, a senior finance major and president of Women in Business, has found her place in the College of Business — and now she is helping others do the same.
When Langford first arrived at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, she struggled to make meaningful connections and get involved on campus. After experiencing limited opportunities during her first few semesters, she became determined to take a more active role in student life.
“I’m trying to make the most of my college experience, and we definitely get a lot of opportunities here in the College of Business,” she said. “They support us so much, and they want to see the best for us.”
Langford is now involved in several campus organizations, including the Accounting Club and the Finance Management Association.
“Getting involved with UAH organizations and the campus community has truly helped me find my confidence,” she said. “I feel like I’ve really bloomed here and have a much clearer sense of who I want to be.”
As president of Women in Business, Langford has focused on creating an environment where students feel welcomed and supported. She said she is intentional about fostering a sense of belonging through inclusive events and programming.
“I want everyone to feel comfortable and feel that they are in a safe space,” she said. “I like that Women in Business is an inclusive environment where we invite anyone to come eat, do craft events or hear from a speaker. I’ve always tried to make everyone feel welcome and included.”
Langford encourages students who may feel disconnected to stay focused on what they can control.
“It gets better,” she said. “If you’re not happy, focus on the things you can change.”
Before finding her path in finance, Langford explored multiple academic disciplines. She began in computer science, switched to mathematics and ultimately found her fit in finance.
“I finally feel like I’ve figured out what I want to do with my career,” she said.
Since choosing her major, Langford has gained professional experience through internships, working as a financial analyst for Carpenter Technology Corp. and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
“I am excited to gain hands-on experience and contribute to meaningful projects that make a difference in my community,” she said.
Looking ahead, Langford hopes to become a financial consultant and use her skills to help individuals and communities manage their finances effectively.
