The Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing Maintenance (MEP) unit is responsible for maintaining a variety of building equipment and systems throughout campus including: Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) Electrical power and distribution Internal and external lighting Piping and plumbing systems supplying domestic water, chilled water, and hot water. Piping discharge systems Our Goal Our goal is to maintain and repair MEP systems in a timely manner and to emphasize service by maintaining a close relationship with our campus customers. We endeavor to be proactive in providing these services as opposed to being reactive. Our proactivity is based in performing scheduled preventive maintenance and minimizing random equipment failures, thus avoiding reactive responses and consequent delays, inconvenience, and lost time. Requesting Service or Maintenance Our work is scheduled through MP2, a Computerized Maintenance Management System, which is operated through the Facilities Work Order Desk (824-6490). Please call that number to submit routine or urgent repair requests, or you may submit online using the Work Order web page. You may also send an email request to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can call or email the Work Order Desk (256-824-6490) for the status of any repair. Service Orders must be submitted or forwarded to the Work Order Desk in Room 124 of the Physical Plant Building. A Service Order is required to perform a modification to existing MEP systems or to install a new system or capability. Note that the Service Order forms must be signed and associated with an applicable budget number. Operation and maintenance of the campus Energy Management and Control System (EMCS) is managed through the MEP Department. It is a Johnson Controls Metasys system driven by a central computer in the Physical Plant Building and networked with intelligent field panels distributed through most campus buildings. Daily activation/deactivation of HVAC, lighting, and other equipment on campus is accomplished through programs that provide optimum comfort and convenience, while minimizing energy consumption. MEP personnel provide on-site maintenance support every day of the week. Regular hours are: 5 A.M. through 11:45 P.M. Monday through Friday 8 A.M. through 4:45 P.M. Saturday and Sunday They are available for routine, urgent and emergency support during regular weekday hours through the Work Order Desk (256-824-6490). The Work Order Desk is available between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. During after-hour, weekend, and holiday periods, it is necessary to call University Police (256-824-6596) for urgent and emergency maintenance support requests. To submit a Service Order for construction or alterations, please complete the Service Order Form and email or forward a copy of the signed form to the Work Order Desk, located in the Physical Plant Building, room 124.
