Empathetic Microcosm: Exhibition by Artist Jave Yoshimoto

Monday, January 8, 2018- February 8, 2018 Multiday event - 32 days

Wilson Hall

Gallery

Yoshimoto's works take on the ephemerality of news and information and how the emotions we bring to each tragedy in the news cycle are swept away by the wave of information that floods the media.

He addresses this social anmesia through his art with the work acting as a social memory for tragic events so quickly forgotten in our information age. He employs images of overwhelming power of the contemporary disasters to inspire empathy in the viewers, using visual color blocks and large fields to draw the audience in, while the finer details keep them fixated and immersed in the works.

This practice represents his belief that art should be accessible to its viewers through humanist tales of struggle and survival as played out in the prevalent social amnesia of the information age.

Artist Talk and Closing Reception: Thursday, February 8, from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Please join us and meet the artist!
