Each calendar year the Mentor Protege Program (MPP) works with eight DBE firms (protégés) to enhance their business development and elevate their capacity to successfully bid on highway contracts. Through direct interaction with assigned mentors, customized training programs, and ongoing support over the course of the year, DBEs will be equipped with strengthened capabilities to support strong, sustainable growth in the industry.

Past Performers

SARCOR, LLC joined the Mentor-Protege Program in 2011. Alabama Guardrail and ARCADIS mentored them as they expanded their work types, purchased an office building in downtown Birmingham, and obtained projects from the City of Birmingham, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and the South AL Regional Planning Commission.


Championship Enterprises joined the Mentor Protege Program in 2014, with Dunn Construction as their mentor. Their accomplishments through the program include growing their vehicle fleet to 19 concrete ready mix and dump trucks, expanding work types to include concrete and erosion control, and successful certifications as both an ALDOT Prime and Small Business Element (SBE).


Bulls Construction Group joined the Mentor Protege Program in 2014. Under the mentorship of MidSouth Paving and Alabama Guardrail, their accomplishments include obtaining certification as an ALDOT prime contractor, successful bidding on ALDOT projects as a prime contractor, and membership in the ALDOT Small Business Element program.
