May 14, 2024 By: Paris Morris Victoria Howell, a senior accounting major, was recently awarded the College of Business (COB) Impact Award for Campus Involvement for her commitment to making The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and College of Business a campus for all. UAH is a part of The University of Alabama System. Howell’s dedication is clear through her numerous leadership positions in the Accounting Connections & Conversations Club, through serving as the parliamentarian of the UAH Student Government Association, and through serving as the treasurer of First2Grad, a program on UAH’s campus that aids first-generation college students through their university experience. Each of her leadership roles exemplifies the passion Howell has for student involvement and success at UAH. “I saw many areas that needed to be improved upon and I didn't want to wait around for someone else to fix it for me,” Howell says. She said her favorite course at UAH was accounting information systems with Dr. Milton Shen. “I value the opportunity to learn technical skills that are highly applicable to the workplace, as well as gaining insights from real-world stories,” she says. After graduating in May of 2024, Howell intends to work for the Alabama Department of Revenue. Previously, she worked at BMSS, LLC., as a government contract accounting intern. At BMSS she performed tasks such as managing outsourced accounting needs for multiple clients and processed client payroll. Also after graduation, Howell will begin working towards her master’s degree in accountancy and plans to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination.
