The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) College of Business (COB) welcomed its first cohort of emerging business leaders (EBL) at the beginning of the fall 2023 semester.

The EBL program is an exclusive cohort-based leadership program for selected first-year UAH business students. Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to work with other high-achieving business students to grow their leadership and professional networking skills, which will serve them well in their career development. Students chosen for the program also received a $500 scholarship.

The 2023 - 2024 emerging business leaders include:
Yelda Ahari (Athens, AL), Lucy Alred (Bridgeport, AL), Lucas Altman (Laceys Spring, AL), William Bond III (Vestavia, AL), Zachary Campbell (Hanceville, AL), AnDrew Carlson (Madison, AL), Seth Cowan (Huntsville, AL), Tyler Fulton (Huntsville, AL), Haley Henson (Arab, AL), Simon Horne (Lookout Mountain, TN), Mac Hurst (Decatur, AL), Hannah Kosek (Red Wing, MN), Makenzie Millsap (Birmingham, AL), Amiah Murry (Albertville, AL), David Paredes (Scottsboro, AL), Edwin Parra (Toney, AL), Nrup Patel (Madison, AL), Gabriel Restrepo (Hoover, AL), Hannah Saramosing (Huntsville, AL), Reagan Schlenker (Springville, AL), Meagan Taylor (Owens Cross Roads, AL), Avry Tipton (Huntsville, AL) and Sophie Wight (Madison, AL).

The program is led by the college’s assistant dean, Jennifer Pettitt, who emphasizes how impressive the EBL students are. “Their enthusiasm to lead and learn from industry leaders, as well as build community in the College of Business, is infectious,” says Pettitt. “Their college journey has just begun, but their impact is already on the horizon.”

The EBL program was strategically developed in an effort to engage business students early in their time at the UAH College of Business. The program fosters a community of high performing students and prepares them for leadership roles, not only at UAH but in their future professional careers.

“Our purpose is to grow the leaders of tomorrow who can help businesses and organizations navigate challenges and realize opportunities,” says College of Business Dean, Dr. Jason Greene. “This program represents our investment in this important purpose.”

“We are excited to have each one of these students in our business program here at UAH and proud to see their commitment and enthusiasm to develop and grow as leaders,” says Greene.

Current high school seniors interested in applying to the 2024 - 2025 program can apply during the spring by visiting uah.edu/business/orgs/emerging-business-leaders. The selection process for the emerging business leader program includes meeting a minimum high school GPA requirement, completing an online application and being selected by a panel of college faculty and staff.
