This week, we will celebrate the graduation of our Class of 2019 and wish them Godspeed as they launch their careers. We are happy to share this Spring 2019 edition of The Business Bulletin to highlight some recent activities and accomplishments of our college, our faculty, our students, and our alumni.

This has been a busy and eventful year. Late last fall, the college welcomed a site visit team of business deans from other universities as part of our fifth year review for AACSB accreditation. We are proud to report the college earned an extension of accreditation for another five years. This accomplishment reflects our faculty’s commitment to quality in their research and teaching and their continuous efforts in innovation and engagement in our academic programs. This spring we celebrated the opening of our new Finance Lab, a modern space where students will explore the practical side of financial decision-making by managing three investment funds.

We welcomed the arrival of Dr. Anthony D’Costa, who will serve as Professor of Economics Eminent Scholar in Global Studies. Thanks to the generous support of Dr. Gurmej Sandhu and Sigmatech in providing an endowment to support this eminent scholar chair, Dr. D’Costa will bring new global insights through his research and his classes. Please also read about the importance of the work by two in our college, Mr. Jeff Thompson, and Dr. Brinda Mahalingam, who provide meaningful research about the economic development of our region.

As we always enjoy doing, we are highlighting several of our students in this edition. Don’t miss the pictures and perspectives from accounting major Destine Brown and management major Courtney Fields, as they reflect on their participation in the college’s inaugural Australia Study Abroad opportunity. We are proud to feature Jason Flores and Alejandro Campos, each with prior service to our country – Mr. Flores in the Air Force and Mr. Campos in the Navy. They each speak of the importance of building their network in contributing to their success, whether as a magician, entrepreneur, or a business professional at Boeing.

We feature two alumnae who have recently taken on new challenges. Mr. Skip Thompson continues his distinguished career in banking and recently stepped up to serve on the Board of Directors for TVA. Read the story of how Ms. Anna Shavers decided to step away from her career in management to pursue her “dream” assignment in the Peace Corps in South Africa.

As you can see, our faculty, staff, students, and alumni are contributing to our community and society in varied and outstanding ways. We are honored and proud to share with them the bond of discovery and learning in the UAH College of Business.

Thank you for your continued interest in UAH and the College of Business. We look forward to sharing another update with you in a few months. In the meantime, we hope you have a wonderful summertime. If you have a story of your own or about one of our students or alumni, we welcome you to share it with us.

Warm regards,

Jason T. Greene, Dean
