Dear Students:
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning students. The staff in OIT hope that you have a successful academic year and want you to know that we are working hard to improve the campus infrastructure; to make available new services; and to ensure that you have the necessary support to meet your technology needs:
The OIT Help Desk provides 24x7 telephone assistance for all of your computing needs. Please call 256-824-3333, and select option 1 (the special option set up for students) to have your password reset, request assistance with ANGEL or Banner, report issues with network connectivity, or for general technical questions. You can also visit the walk-in Help Desk, conveniently located in the Salmon Library next to the reference desk. No appointment is necessary, and hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
For self-help, the OIT User Services Portal is the online tool you can use to find your Charger ID, reset your Charger ID Password, and more. Find the portal at: http://oitportal.uah.edu.
OIT also wanted to share with you some of our recent accomplishments and future projects that we believe will greatly improve your computing experience:
Name Change
Over the summer we changed our name from i.t.solutions to Office of Information Technology. Additionally, TAG will now be known as the OIT Help Desk. This new name better encompasses the wide variety of services provided to the campus, and is in alignment with the naming conventions of the rest of the University and UA System.
WOW: Find Phil the Phish
OIT is sponsoring an event to promote phishing awareness so you can be more knowledgeable about email scams. Be on the lookout during Week of Welcome for posters with Phil the Phish and enter to win prizes including a Kindle Fire!
Network Improvements
Over the summer all residence halls were outfitted with wireless -- if you live in resident housing, you will have both wired (ResNet) and wireless connectivity. Additionally, changes were made so that you can have up to three simultaneous network connections.
Coming Soon
OIT is working on a service called Chargerware that will allow you to download software that is free for students. Also on the way is a new service center with a searchable knowledge base and guided help for troubleshooting. An easy way to connect with OIT!
We wish you a wonderful semester and invite your comments and for you to like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UAHOIT.
