FROM THE CIO

Malcolm Rice

OIT engaged OculusIT to do an analysis of how we can strengthen our relationship with the campus community, and we are excited about the outcome. Over the next few months, we will form advisory councils to assist with data governance and project prioritization. We will update our website and introduce service level agreements, we will add Guest Wi-Fi capabilities, and consolidate wireless networks to better serve our current and future constituents.

OIT WELCOMES

Jeremy Shelley, Chief Information Security Officer

Jeremy comes to UAH with a wealth of knowledge he has acquired throughout his extensive career in the private sector. He has held various positions with both commercial and government agencies. Jeremy is also an adjunct professor in the College of Business where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate cyber security courses.

Jayann "Jay" Moraites, Senior Staff Assistant

Jay comes to us from Florence, Alabama where she not only worked in higher education, but in K-12 as well. She loves helping people, streamlining processes, having fun, and being  adventurous.

Coe Gwalthney, Systems Engineer III

Coe comes to UAH with a diverse background in IT infrastructure development, planning, deployment, and support, as well as graphic design, material design and fabrication, and… well… a little bit of everything. If you can think of it, Coe might have done it at some point. In both personal and professional life, he likes to find ways to meaningfully contribute to the team and learn new things. In his spare time, he enjoys leather smithing, music, tinkering, and gaming.

Cielo "Ana" Elmore, Help Desk Associate

Ana joins OIT as the Help Desk Associate. She comes to us from the Republic of the Philippines by way of Hawaii. She holds a BS in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Information Technology. Ana wasn't on the job 4 hours before being able to resolve her first case; woohoo!

PHISHING

Jeremy Shelley, UAH CISO

UAH has observed a large number of email phishing attempts over the past few months. Phishing attacks use false emails or text messages to trick you into giving the sender information. These phishing emails are carefully crafted to look like legitimate emails from the company. While we cannot stop attackers from sending phishing emails, there are some things you can look for to protect yourself and UAH from these attacks.

If you receive a phishing email, UAH OIT would ask that you click on the 3 dots in the top-right corner of the email and click “Report Phishing” or “Report Spam.

KUDOS

To Our Tech People

"I am a retiree from the University and have applied for a retiree email account. I have tried for several days to access the form through the OIT on line forms. This has been a very stressful process due to my inability to download the form to my email address.

Today I was fortunate enough to get one of your staff members by the name of Daniel Wilson to assist me. Daniel was very patient, extremely courteous and kind as well as very knowledgeable in his position. OIT staff members must be experts in their field, however, not everyone is kind and considerate of people on the other end of the line. When you’re in a  frustrating situation, it is so helpful and consoling when you are fortunate enough to get someone like Daniel to assist you. He sure was a blessing to me and I just wanted to pass this along to you." - Bernice Pitsis-Rush

"I want you to know how much I appreciate Ryan. He has gone beyond the call of the request. He has stayed in touch with me and answered every question I had. He did discover the cause of the clock not working and we are waiting for a POE board to be sent from TimeClock Plus."

- Diane Gibbs

CHEERS TO OUR RETIREES!

Congratulations on your retirement! We wish you the best in the upcoming years, and we thank you for your service to UAH.
