Biography

Ashley is a two-time graduate of The University of Alabama, where she earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Throughout her graduate training, she gained diverse clinical experience in both inpatient and college counseling settings, developing a strong foundation in supporting individuals through a variety of mental health concerns and life transitions. During her time at Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services, Ashley worked with adolescents in an intensive residential treatment setting, providing individual and group therapy. Through this experience, she developed expertise in crisis intervention, risk assessment and management, psychoeducation, and solution-focused brief therapy. She later completed her college counseling internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Student Counseling Services, where she discovered her passion for supporting college students as they navigate personal, academic, and developmental challenges. Following graduation, Ashley worked as a school-based therapist serving two Madison County elementary schools, providing mental health support to students from Pre-K through fifth grade. Through this role, she gained experience working with children, families, and school systems while helping students develop emotional awareness, coping skills, and resilience. Ashley is excited to return to the college counseling setting and looks forward to partnering with students throughout their counseling journey.

Ashley has experience working with individuals across a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Her counseling approach is primarily person-centered, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe, welcoming, and authentic therapeutic relationship where clients feel valued, understood, and empowered. She integrates various therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and emotion-focused therapy, while continuing to explore the role of neuroscience in supporting mental health and personal growth. Ashley believes that each client brings unique strengths, experiences, and perspectives into the counseling process. Her goal is to provide a compassionate and collaborative space where clients can explore challenges, build self-awareness, develop effective coping strategies, and work toward meaningful change. She recognizes the unique pressures and transitions experienced by college students and is committed to supporting their personal growth, emotional well-being, and ability to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
