Biography

Nathan Spulak is an Assistant Professor whose research focuses on experimental solid mechanics and multiphysics modeling. His research group performs experimental testing to study the behavior of materials subjected to high strain rate and dynamic impact loading. Additionally he performs multiphysics finite element analysis (FEA) modeling with Ansys LS-DYNA to understand the coupled mechanical-thermal response of materials subjected to dynamic loading. His research interests involve a wide range of materials and applications including metal plasticity, additively manufactured materials, polymers, fiber-reinforced composites, energetic materials, and energy storage devices such as batteries.

He obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering both from The Ohio State University, prior to his joining the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2022.
