Indoor Air Quality

Airborne dust, Asbestos, Bioaerosols (living and nonliving biological air contaminants), Carbon dioxide, Carbon monoxide, Environmental Tobacco Smoke, Formaldehyde, Laboratory Chemicals, Ozone, Radon, Volatile organic compounds. UAH General Industry Safety

These guidelines are designed to support the University policy to ensure safe practices are observed in the Facilities and Operations Department and other units that perform general industry type work. The basis for these guidelines is the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control

Exposed to injuries, blood spatters or other human fluids? this plan provides guidelines on how to protect yourself and others while handling, cleaning or otherwise exposed to potentially infectious material.

Gas Cylinders

This policy provides useful information on handling compressed gas cylinders during receiving, storage, use, and shipping.

Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) Program

This policy provides information on the safe use, storage, and or handling of hazardous materials in non-laboratory settings. Labs are covered under the Chemical hygiene and Lab Safety Plans.

Respiratory Protection

Respiratory protection is used when engineering and administrative controls do not reduce hazardous material exposure below acceptable limits. It is also employed in oxygen deficient atmospheres. All persons who use any type of respiratory protection must have training. Contact the OEHS for more information.

Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Program

The SPCC is required by the EPA. It is the written document of how UAH will respond to releases of oil into the environment.

Lockout / Tagout Program

When implemented, hazards resulting from hazardous releases of energy can be significantly reduced.

Ladder Inspection

Use this as a general guideline to insure ladders are in good working condition.
