All autoclaves used for the decontamination of biohazardous waste must be tested on an annual basis. Sharps containers should not be filled more than 2/3 full. The full UAH biological waste handling guide can be found on the UAH policies website. For additional information or guidance on biological waste handling, contact the Biosafety Officer. Biosafety Manuals and Guides Radioactive Waste For information on the Radiation Safety program and radioactive waste, contact the Environmental Compliance Program Manager. Hazardous Waste At UAH, the term hazardous waste is used to describe waste with properties that make it dangerous or capable of having a harmful effect on human health or the environment. Hazardous waste is generated from various sources. Many labs on campus generate hazardous waste, all of which is processed by OEHS. Some labs generate more waste than others, however, all waste must be handled and stored properly until it can be picked up by OEHS. UAH uses Chematix to allow lab owners to create waste labels and submit those for pickup to OEHS. Learn more about this process through the links below.
