Biography
Mrs. Balch serves as Instructor of clarinet/saxophone at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. She specializes in saxophone, clarinet, and flute classical study. Other teaching duties have included music theory, ear training, music appreciation, and woodwind methods. She is active as an adjudicator for Alabama Bandmasters Association, clinician, chamber musician, and soloist. Mrs. Balch holds a Master's degree in woodwind performance from The University of Georgia. She was a student of Dr. Theodore Jahn, clarinet, Dr. Kenneth Fischer, saxophone, and Dr. Ronald Waln, flute. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in music education with honors from The University of Montevallo, where she was a student of Dr. Lori N. Ardovino. A freelance musician in northern Alabama, she regularly performs with various community groups including Huntsville Chamber Winds, Huntsville's In the Mood Swing Band, Rocket City Jazz Orchestra, Clarion Winds Clarinet Ensemble, Prevailing Winds Flute Ensemble, Twickenham Winds, Celebration Winds, various school and community theater productions, and is active in her church, Crosspointe Church. Mrs. Balch has kept a private studio for the last twenty years and her students include members of the Alabama All-State band and Huntsville Youth Orchestra.
