Admission and Application Requirements for Atmospheric Earth Science

Admission Requirements

In addition to fulfilling admission requirements set by Graduate School, applicants must also have

1.a. Three semesters of calculus including the calculus of vector-valued functions, basic (ordinary) differential equations, and two semesters of calculus-based physics. Linear algebra is recommended. (MS AES/ATS and PhD ATS)

   b. Two semesters of calculus, and two semesters of calculus-based physics. (MS AES/ESS)

   c. Two semesters of calculus, and two semesters of calculus-based physics. Undergraduate course in Remote Sensing recommended. (Graduate GIS and Remote Sensing Certificate)

2. Demonstrable computer proficiency in at least one high-level programming language.

3. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on the undergraduate record. For admission into the PhD ATS program, an MS degree in atmospheric science / meteorology or a broadly related STEM field is required.

Application Requirements

 The application requirements for the Atmospheric and Earth Science graduate programs are as follows:

 

MS AES

Required:

1) Official college transcript

2) Three letters of recommendation

3) Personal statement

 Optional: 

 GRE scores are not required.

 

PhD ATS

Required:

1) Official college transcripts for both Bachelor's and Master's degrees

2) Three letters of recommendation

3) Personal statement

 Optional:

 

Graduate GIS & RS Certificate 

Required:

1) Official college transcript

2) Curriculum vitae or resume

Additional Information

  • Letters of recommendation should be from instructors, capstone advisors, or project managers who can attest to your knowledge, skills, and abilities. Letters should be submitted via the graduate school application, but can also be sent to aes-chair@uah.edu.
  • For priority consideration of a graduate research assistantship (GRA) or graduate teaching assistantship (GTA), apply on or before January 1 (For Fall start).
