Small, evidence-based changes in the classroom can strengthen students' sense of belonging, build a growth mindset, and help them develop the resilience they need to overcome challenges on their path to success. SHAPE is UAH's Faculty Community of Practice for exploring those changes, drawing on research from sources like the Student Experience Project and the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) as part of the university's All In for Student Success initiative.
"I have realized that SHAPE has shaped every aspect of my teaching and how I am more confident to be my authentic self. Authenticity creates belongingness."
~ Tammy Shults, College of Nursing

The Two Paths
ACUE Certification in Effective Teaching
A four-course sequence delivered in partnership with ACUE, paired with SHAPE community of practice meetings where faculty discuss what they are learning and putting into practice. Faculty who complete a course are automatically enrolled in the next one in the sequence.
Our inaugural ACUE cohort is currently full. Use this form to be considered for a future cohort.
General Communities of Practice
Open discussion groups built around ACUE short-course topics, including Preparing Workforce Ready Students and Holistic Student Support. Groups meet three times in the fall and spring semesters, with both semesters ending in a celebratory lunch for all SHAPE participants.
Fill out our Communities of Practice interest form to let us know if you would like to participate.
