The Department of Curriculum & Instruction prepares future educators through rigorous academic coursework, hands-on classroom experiences, and strong partnerships across The University of Alabama in Huntsville and local school systems. In collaboration with the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences and the College of Science, our undergraduate teacher preparation programs combine a broad liberal arts foundations with content-rich professional studies, preparing graduates to make a meaningful impact in classrooms and communities.

B.A. in Art with a Concentration in Education (P-12)
The Art with a concentration in Education program combines artistic creativity with effective teaching practices to prepare future visual arts educators. Students develop technical and creative skills in a variety of artistic media while learning instructional techniques that encourage artistic expression and critical thinking in students of all ages. Graduates are prepared to teach visual arts in kindergarten through twelfth grade classrooms while fostering creativity, problem-solving, and lifelong appreciation for the arts.
B.A. in Elementary Education
The Elementary Education program prepares future teachers to inspire and educate children across all core academic subjects in kindergarten through sixth grade. Students develop strong instructional strategies, classroom management skills, and a deep understanding of child development while gaining extensive hands-on experience in local schools. Graduates are prepared to create engaging learning environments that support the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student. Students in elementary programs may add a collaborative-special education (K-6) endorsement with additional coursework and an internship.
B.A. in Music with a Concentration in Education (P-12)
The Music Education program prepares students to become skilled musicians and inspiring educators. Students receive comprehensive instruction in music theory, performance, conducting, and pedagogy while gaining practical classroom experience through field placements and student teaching. Graduates are equipped to lead vocal or instrumental music programs that inspire students through performance, creativity, and musical excellence.
B.S. in Child, Family, and Community Development
The Child, Family, and Community Development program prepares students to support children and families through careers outside of traditional classroom teaching. Within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, students pursue the Leadership in Early Learning and Family Relations concentration, which emphasizes child development, family relationships, community resources, leadership, and program administration while gaining valuable hands-on experience in community settings. Graduates are prepared for careers in nonprofit organizations, child advocacy, youth development, family services, early childhood programs, and other community-based organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children and families.
B.S. in Early Childhood Special Education
The Early Childhood Special Education program prepares educators to support infants, toddlers, and you children with disabilities and developmental delays. Students learn evidence-based instructional strategies, assessment techniques, family-centered practices, and inclusive teaching methods while gaining hands-on experience in a variety of educational settings. Graduates are prepared to make meaningful impacts during the most critical years of child development through early intervention and specialized insruction. Students in the Early Childhood Special Education program will be eligible to apply for an Alabama Class B Early Childhood Special Education (P-3) teaching certificate.
B.S. in Kinesiology with Physical Education (P-12)
The Kinesiology with Physical Education program prepares future educators to promote lifelong health, physical activity, and wellness among students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Coursework emphasizes motor development, exercise science, teaching methods, adapted physical education, and classroom management. Through extensive clinical experiences, graduates develop the knowledge and confidennce to create engaging learning environments that encourage healthy lifestyles and physical literacy.
B.S. in Secondary Education
The Secondary Education program prepares students to teach their chosen subject area to high school learners. Through coursework in instructional methods, educational psychology, classroom management, and discipline-specific teaching strategies, students learn how to engage adolescents and foster meaningful learning experiences. Extensive field experiences and student teaching prepare graduates for successful careers as educator in today's diverse classrooms.
