Biography

As an Economist at the Science Coordination Office of Servir at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, I am currently developing a white paper based on previous studies of the economic impacts of satellite-based tools and maps conducted by NASA. This work aims to enhance our understanding of the gaps and feasibilities for conducting economic impact analyses of earth observations. I am also collaborating with SERVIR’s Southeast Asia (Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre) and West Africa (International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics) Hubs to observe the economic impact of their ‘Smoke Watch’ tool in the Mekong, and that of Sub seasonal to Seasonal forecast services on agricultural markets, respectively. I am also looking into the economic impact of GeoGloWs tool in collaboration with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Before joining SERVIR, I was at Washington State University, pursuing a PhD in Economics. My specialization is in Environmental and Natural Resources Economics and Advanced Econometrics. During my time there, I worked on developing Agent-Based Models for efficient water allocation in agricultural water markets as part of the Technology for Trade project funded by USDA. I also collaborated with the Washington State Department of Ecology to investigate barriers and opportunities for the impact of Climate Change on Streamflow. Throughout my PhD, I served as a researcher for the E8 Angel Group of investors, the first Angel Group in the United States to focus on clean technology and sustainability.

I traveled to the United States to pursue my PhD. Prior to that, I worked as a Lecturer in Statistical and Managerial Economics at Loreto College, Kolkata for a year after completing my master’s in economics from the University of Calcutta.
