UAH brings experts, athletes and researchers together for 2026 Para-cycling Symposium

As para-cycling continues to grow on the international stage, The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will bring athletes, coaches, researchers and sport professionals together in Huntsville for the 2026 Para-cycling Symposium on Sept. 2.

Hosted by UAH’s Ability Sport Network and Department of Kinesiology in the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences, the one-day symposium will take place in the Student Services Building, Room 112, in alignment with the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, hosted by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). UAH is a part of The University of Alabama System.

The symposium will provide a unique opportunity for students, athletes, coaches, practitioners, researchers and sport professionals to explore the latest developments in para-cycling and adapted sport. Sessions will examine emerging training methodologies, athlete classification, performance testing for para-athletes, advances in technology and equipment, and the infrastructure and planning required to successfully host para-cycling events.

“We are excited to partner with key figures within the Paralympic movement to host this event. We have an amazing mix of professionals from Paracycling and academia that will provide a significant learning opportunity for our attendees. We are looking forward to bringing this to the Huntsville community and hope to continue providing sport and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities,” said Dr. David Kyle, Ability Sport Network Director.

The symposium will feature a full day of programming designed to connect participants with experts working across the paralympic sport landscape. Highlights include a keynote address, an athlete panel featuring international UCI para-cycling competitors, and presentations from researchers, classifiers and sport performance professionals.

By bringing together expertise from competition, research, education and sport performance, the symposium will offer attendees an inside look at the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of para-cycling — while highlighting the growing role of adapted sport in creating opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

About Ability Sport Network

The Ability Sport Network (ASN) at UAH is focused on Paralympic and adapted sports for people with disabilities. Funded by a grant from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, the program is housed in the Department of Kinesiology and pairs students' participation in adapted sport and recreation with hands-on experience for UAH Kinesiology students.
