Biography

Dr. Anne Marie Choup has been on the faculty of the Department of Political Science since 2007. She obtained her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has also studied at George Washington University (M.A. International Affairs) and Georgetown University (B.S. Foreign Service). Dr. Choup’s research examines the changing relationships between governments and historically marginalized populations. Her current research focuses on immigrant-rights advocacy in Alabama. Her past research publications have looked at citizen demands and government responses to gender-based violence in contexts ranging from US college campuses to the Inter-American system; and on the interaction between grassroots organizations and democratizing Latin American and African governments.
