All students who apply to the Alabama Department of Education, Teacher Education and Certification Office, for Alabama professional educator certificates must meet the requirements for the Alabama Educator Certification Assessment Program (AECAP) as a precondition for certification.

Which tests do I take?

Effective September 1, 2017, and thereafter, the Educational Testing Services (ETS) Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests should be taken prior to admission to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP).  This exam is composed of three parts:  reading, writing, and mathematics.

When do I take the Praxis Core Test?

UAH undergraduate and MAT (Alternative-A) graduate students must take the ETS Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators exam before or during Block 1 of their education program.  This is typically while they are taking ED 301, ED 308, and EDC 311 or ED 501 (for MAT students).

How do I register?

  • Online registration: https://www.ets.org/praxis/register
  • By Phone:  1-800-772-9476 (You may only register by phone if you have previously created a Praxis account.  There is a $35 fee to use this phone service.)

Where do I send my scores?

  • Alabama State Department of Education - Scores are automatically sent to the ALSDE.
  • UAH – It is your responsibility to list UAH as a recipient of your test scores.  Photocopies of Score Reports will NOT be accepted for certification.
  • Keep all documented score reports for future use.
