What is Academic Advising?

Academic Advising is an integral part of your college experience, and is your primary resource for academic planning, course selection, and career guidance. We are happy to work with current students, as well as new or future students and transfer students.

What to Expect During an Advising Appointment

  • Review your choice of major, concentration, and minor (if applicable), and discuss any questions or concerns.
  • Review your Degree Works plan.
  • Create or update your personalized long range plan that outlines all of the courses you need to take to complete your degree.
  • Discuss outside factors that might be impacting your academic career, including work, family, financial needs, and much more.
  • Identify UAH resources that you may find helpful, such as meeting with the Pre-Professional Advising Office, going to the Office of Financial Aid for questions about scholarships, or the Student Success Center for help with a particularly difficult course.

Students with a prehealth interest (pre-PT, pre-OT, etc) should meet with the Preprofessional Advising office on a regular basis also. Students must meet with their academic advisor during their junior year to finalize dates for internship and graduation.
